I thoroughly enjoyed this dark humoured yet poignant film, telling the tale of a misfit who is thrown into contact with a world he is totally unfamiliar, the subsequent adoration and fascination of the neighbourhood, who then, one by one reject him on spurious grounds forcing him back to his original home and lonely, isolated life. I couldn't help reflect, that in this beautiful film there was also a sad realism of how it can be for real for those who, for whatever reason, fascinate then disappoint us, and are then once more side-lined into the margins of society.
This film is one that can be watched several times over with something different attracting your attention on each viewing. Although it is 26 years old, it still has the power to resonate with a modern audience, which to me, is proof of a classic film and performance. Highly recommend. I watched Edward Scissor Hands with a group of 6 friends. We found it delightful, charming and quite profound as well as much funnier than we expected.
We enjoyed the characters, the satirising of middle America and the lovely artistic style. There were compliments for Johnny Depp's ability to imbue Edward with wonder and sensitivity despite his scissor costume and make-up, through body language and his beautiful brown eyes.
